Residents of various areas of Chautauqua County are finally able to see the hard work that students put into creating a campus television show.

In 2011 Mark Kiyak created “Dialogues”— a half hour public affairs program featuring topical issues pertinent to the Southern tier of Chautauqua County, now aired on public access news channel.

“I created the show because I thought that having more options for people to learn what is going on in the community was a good thing,” Kiyak said.

The program reaches locally at Fredonia and Dunkirk, as well as Mayville, North Harmony, Sherman, West-field and Portland areas. The show has featured a variety of guests including the Mayor of Dunkirk, the Superintendant of Brockton schools, President Horvath, and candidates running for local office positions.

The show is hosted by Tina Zboch; a reporter for WDOE radio along with Eileen Mowrey; a Journalism student at SUNY Fredonia.

“The hosts talk with potential guests to see what they want to talk about [on the show],”Kiyak stated. “And we go from there. The hosts have free reign and they ask all the questions.”

The show is directed and produced by Kiyak, but for the most part is student run. The crew consists of student volunteers, mostly video majors. Kiyak says that the students have various jobs in the studio, and “get real life experience” working on the show. He depends on the students to help him run the show.

“The students have done a very good job,” Kiyak said. “I am blown away by the number of students that want to help out. Kiyak hopes the show will be able to be picked up in other areas and will hopefully gain a bigger viewership.
